| Description | All animal feed-stock being imported into Botswana has to be accompanied by the relevant import permit issued by the Departimet of Veterinary Services (DVS). This requirement is to control the movement of various animal feeds that may contain restricted or prohibited additives and could compromise the onward sale of Botswana animal products to specific international markets |
| Comments | Applicant are required to submit additional information with this applicationstating the type of feeds, specifications or formulations for all the feeds intended to be produced, the source of raw materials and other guarantees that the Director may require. Such guarantees include compliance to prohibition of use of specified hormones, growth promoters, thyrostatic compounds, beta agonists and meat and bone meal of animal origin. Import permits issued by DVS for animal feeds are decentralised and can be issued at any veterinary district office where a state veterinary officer is available. For the importation a any exotic feed-stocks that may not be on the data-base the applicaton may have to be referred to DVS HO Gaborone. For certain categories of Feed-stock, standards have been promulgated under the auspices of the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BoBs)and a Notice of Recognition (NoR) has to be obtained from BoBs prior to the issuing of the VIP |
