Description

Application For Compliance Certificate In Conformity With Siir - Botswana Bureau Of Standards (BOBS) Standards

Supporting Documents

  • Commercial Invoice Indicating Commodity, Value and the relevant HS CODE
  • Any supporting documentation of analysis and testing of the particular commodity for which you are applying for the Conformity to a particular BOBS Standard
  • Certificate of Origin (if Required)

Notes

1. Ideally this procedure should commence PRIOR to the goods being imported (suggested time-line 14 days). However if not done or if the goods have not been tested in the country of origin, the importer/ applicant may apply for a 'Conditional Release Certificate' at the border whereby the goods may be stored at the premises indicated on the certificate until such time as the Compliance Certificate is awarded or declined. The goods will be sampled and taken to the Laboratory for testing. The goods whilst under the duration of this certificate are not to be distributed into the Botswana market. If the goods show compliance to the standard, the Note of Recognition (NoR) is issued; however if conformity certification is declined, the importer/applicant has the choice of :

  • Re-exporting the goods OR
  • Having them destroyed under the supervision of BOBS, the cost of which will be borne by the trader/applicant.

2. Submit the completed application form, along with the supporting documents above and proof of payment of the fee to the Compulsory Standards Unit (CSU) - Compulsory Standards Office, Bureau Of Standards building, Plot No. 55745, Block 8, Main Airport Road, Gaborone OR BoBs Office, Plot 32367, Donga, adjacent Metsef Wholesalers, Francistown, Botswana

3.The Certificate of Conditional Release (CoCR) will be issued and the necessary samples taken for test and analysis. The goods can then be moved to the place of storage as indicated on the CoCR until such time as the results of the testing/analysis are complete (average 2 weeks).

4. Dependent upon the results, if the standard is upheld, a Note of Recognition Certificate (NoR) is produced and may be collected from the designated offices as above and the goods may be distributed into the Botswana Market.

5. Dependent upon the results, if the standard is not upheld and the goods do not conform, arrangements must be made for the goods to be immediately exported and proof of export declared to the CSU in BOBS or Arrangements made to the satisfaction of the CSU in BOBS to have the goods destroyed and certification of such destruction presented to the CSU in BOBS
